HAL Group Inc. was retained by HDR to carry out structural investigations at the Toronto Transit Commission's Queen's Park Station, supporting the station's structural rehabilitation design.
LIMITED CONDITION SURVEY
In 2019, HAL carried out a limited condition survey of the station's southwest expansion joint and the east passage overhead beam.
GPR SCANNING
In 2020, ground-penetrating radar was used to map the reinforcement in the east passage overhead beam ahead of intrusive work.
TEST PIT EXCAVATION
In 2021, HAL located the overhead beam from street level with a Hilti PX 10 Transpointer and opened a test pit by hydrovac so the beam's waterproofing membrane could be exposed and assessed.
TRAFFIC AND SITE MANAGEMENT
The night-time work included utility locates, a traffic control plan to OTM Book 7, a paid duty officer, and backfill and surface reinstatement once the assessment was complete.
