HAL carried out a comprehensive condition assessment of the Crystal Beach Primary Digester on behalf of The Regional Municipality of Niagara. The investigation was undertaken to evaluate the structural condition and durability of this critical wastewater treatment asset.
EVALUATING CONCRETE INTEGRITY
A detailed delamination survey of the digester walls and floor was conducted to identify areas of deterioration and assess the overall condition of the concrete structure. The survey provided valuable information for future maintenance and rehabilitation planning..
CORROSION RISK ASSESSMENT
Corrosion potential testing was performed to evaluate the likelihood of reinforcing steel corrosion within the concrete. This assessment helped identify areas that may be vulnerable to long-term deterioration and durability concerns
TARGET CORING AND TESTING
Concrete cores were extracted from selected locations throughout the structure to support a detailed material evaluation. Laboratory testing included compressive strength, chloride ion content, and carbonation analysis to determine the condition and remaining service life of the concrete.
SUPPORTING ASSET MANAGEMENT DECISIONS
By combining field investigations with laboratory analysis, HAL Group Inc. delivered a comprehensive understanding of the digester's condition. The findings provided the Regional Municipality of Niagara with reliable data to support asset management, rehabilitation planning, and long-term infrastructure stewardship.
