HAL Group Inc. was retained by GHD on behalf of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) to complete an updated condition survey of Sheppard–Yonge Station (Structure No. YNG-538+60B-SR). The assignment supports ongoing asset management and public safety objectives within one of Toronto’s busiest transit interchanges.
INVESTIGATION HIGHLIGHTS
The work focused on an updated condition survey of Station Area Y7-12, building upon previous assessments. Visual site inspections were carried out to verify earlier findings and identify any changes in structural condition since the last review.
All work was completed subject to TTC access constraints, including track-level areas, station rooms, and confined crawl spaces. Close coordination and careful planning were required to ensure safe execution within an active transit environment.
PUBLIC SAFETY ASSESSMENT
A comprehensive delamination survey of the station platform and track levels was performed to address public safety concerns. Areas exhibiting signs of deterioration were closely examined to assess the extent and severity of concrete distress.
TARGETED TESTING AND CORING
The scope included concrete coring to support material evaluation and condition verification. Deterioration and delamination surveys were conducted across accessible structural elements to provide a detailed understanding of existing conditions.
