HAL hammer-sounded the shotcrete surfaces over wall zones and headers to detect hollow sections behind the finished face.

WHY IT MATTERS

Hollow areas and poorly consolidated zones in shotcrete reduce bond and protection to the reinforcement. Finding them during construction lets the contractor repair them before they are covered up.
